Introduction
The Kamsa Competition is a Bay Area music competition for young musicians. The Silicon Valley Orchestra (GSYO) is the host orchestra for the competition. The competition is open to all instrumentalists and vocalists who are current students in grades 6-12.
There are three rounds of competition. In the first round, competitors perform one piece of their choice that is 3 minutes or less in length. In the second round, competitors perform two contrasting pieces that are each 3 minutes or less in length. In the third and final round, the top four finalists compete against each other by performing a concerto with GSYO.
The winner of the Kamsa Competition will receive a cash prize, as well as the opportunity to perform as a soloist with GSYO at their winter concert.
History
The Silicon Valley Orchestra (SVO) was founded in 2002 by Maestro Leo Eylar. The SVO is a 501(c)(3) non-profit orchestra based in San Jose, California, USA. The orchestra is made up of volunteer musicians from the greater San Francisco Bay Area.
The SVO performs four concert programs each year at the California Theatre in downtown San Jose. In addition to its regular concert series, the orchestra has performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Kennedy Center.
The SVO provides educational opportunities for young musicians through its Young Artist Program which includes an annual Concerto Competition and mentorship program. The SVO also offers free concerts for school children and discounted tickets for students 18 years and younger.
The Competition
